Criminal Offenses We Defend

The potential of jail, significant fines, probation, loss of employment, or future employment, loss of license, professional license, child custody issues, immigration status, public benefits and a criminal record* can cause anyone anxiety. The fact that you're charged with a crime, doesn't mean you you should give up hope. Just the opposite. The issue isn't whether you committed the crime, it's whether the prosecutor can prove you committed the crime. And that's not always an easy task. There are many ways a criminal charge can be attacked and defeated. This is why it's necessary to have an experienced criminal attorney represent you. Over the years, I've handled hundreds of criminal matters, involving  Assault, Burglary, Theft, Forgery, Shoplifting, Drugs, Weapons, Robbery, Arson, Domestic Violence, Assault by Auto, Terroristic Threats some involving Juvenile  and D.Y.F.S. charges. Frequently Asked Questions

What does a criminal defense lawyer do?

A criminal defense lawyer fulfills many important roles during the course of a criminal case. He or she is is responsible for defending a person who is charged with a crime. He or she speaks on the client’s behalf. As part of their representation, a Criminal Defense Attorney will, where necessary, investigate his client's case, interview witnesses, hire expert witnesses, collect evidence, review the prosecutors evidence and prepare a defense strategy.

Why are criminal defense attorneys important?

Criminal law is a complex body of state and federal legislation. In fact, each state often sets its own definitions and punishments for state crimes. The majority of crimes are state crimes. Exceptions include causing damage to federal property or inflicting injury upon a federal employee.

The average person will not have an understanding of criminal law or the criminal justice process. Unfortunately, ignorance or failing to understand criminal law is rarely an adequate defense to avoid being found guilty.

Although an individual has the right to represent himself or herself during criminal trial proceedings, the consequences of having poor legal representation can be severe. Misdemeanors, which are lesser crimes, might only entail a fine or a brief jail sentence, but felonies, which are more serious crimes, can lead to long prison terms. This is why it is so important to have someone knowledgeable about the law argue on your behalf.

How do you help reduce my sentence?

Criminal defense attorneys research the facts, investigate the case against their clients and try to negotiate deals with their adversaries (prosecutors). These deals may include reduced bail, reduced charges, and reduced sentences. Because of a number of factors—political and public pressure, overcrowded jails, overloaded court calendars—deal-making has grown in importance and has become an essential element in unclogging the criminal justice system.

Testimonials

I retained Mr. Redden for a D.U.I. a few years ago. Since I travel extensively for my business, I was extremely concerned about losing my license and not being able to work. Mr. Redden made clear from the beginning that he could not guarantee I would not lose my license, but that he would do his best to save it. He delivered on that promise. Mr. Redden reviewed the evidence in my case and found a problem with the evidence. As a result, the D.U.l. was dismissed. I would recommend him to anyone.

My daughter was killed in a car accident, after being served excessive alcohol by a bar, leaving her two small children without a mother. Some people tried to say it was my daughter's fault, but Mr. Redden worked hard and was able to prove that the bar was negligent for serving her too much alcohol. He recovered money to help her children.

I was facing my second D.U.I. and a two year loss of my license. Since I also have a Commercial License that I use for work, if I was convicted of the D.U.I., I would have lost a lot of business and possibly have been destroyed financially. I had used a high-priced law firm for my first D.U.I. and was not happy with the results.

I had met Mr. Redden socially and liked his personality, knowledge of the law and his passion to win for his clients. I hired Mr. Redden - at a much lower fee than my previous lawyer - and he fought hard and got the D.U.I. charge dismissed.

I would recommend him to anyone with a legal problem, and I've referred family and friends to him.

I was asked by a close family member to loan them a significant amount of money. Due to our close family relationship, I didn't get the loan in writing, and later the other person refused to repay me. It caused an extreme financial hardship for me and my family. People told me without a written contract, I would never get paid. I hired Mr. Redden to try and get my money back. He not only got my money paid back to me, he made the other person pay his attorneys fees. He did a great job.
